Community Learning Event: “Diversity 101: Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression (ARAO) Training”

Diversity 101 has been designed to help groups come to a shared understanding of anti-racism/anti-oppression theory and practice.

This workshop provides an overview of Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression (ARAO) concepts and terminology while examining how individuals and groups are impacted by systems of oppression and what can be done to affect change.

Designed for Leaders and People Managers

This Deep Dive is designed for leaders and people managers (or managers-to-be) in non-profit organizations.

Led by Angela Connors

Angela Connors, the Executive Director of Niijkiwendidaa Anishnaabekwewag Services Circle (NASC), is Anishinaabe from the Saugeen First Nation Beaver Clan. She has a passion for social justice, fueled through her ancestry and shaped by over two decades in the non-profit sector and organized labour.

Angela has worked extensively with organizations across Ontario providing professional development encouraging dialogue and action on anti-racism and anti-oppression. She is a past recipient of the City of Toronto’s Access, Equity and Human Rights Award in Aboriginal Affairs.

Angela has facilitated countless hours of training to individuals representing hundreds of organizations across Ontario. She brings a breadth of experience garnered through her work as an employment counsellor, human resources supervisor, volunteer coordinator, project manager and national union representative.

In 2019 Angela spearheaded the successful campaign to get Peterborough to sign onto the Canadian Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities. She hopes to bring this campaign to municipalities across Peterborough County.
